Meet The Finalists

The final is upon us! Following last year’s qualifiers at championship shows across the UK, we now have our 14 finalists. The final will be held Sunday 3rd February, at Thrumpton Hall in Nottinghamshire, where all finalists will have the chance to win £500 and a fabulous commission by Jo van Kampen.

In this blog we take a look at the finalists who will be competing to be crowned the Buddies Yearling of the Year.

UK Toy Finalists

The first to qualify at the UK Toy Dog Show back in March 2018, was Richard Forsythe, with his 15-month-old English Toy Terrier ‘Witchstone Tommy Hawk at Richpin’, who is also known as Spike.

Spike and Richard will be joined at the grand final by bitch class winner Anita Lunam, and 20-month-old Pug ‘Rhodenash Kotten Khiara Avec Anzhela’, – pet name Lexi.

Qualifying at the National Terrier show was Jack Russell Hot News Di Sutri with Jaeva, – pet name Pablo. Pablo lives with his handler Harry, who told us that Pablo is a typical naughty Jack Russell who has a love for garlic sausage.

Harry and Pablo will be joined at the Buddies Yearling of the Year grand final by bitch class winner Willowyre Whyte Magic, who’s pet name is Darcey. Wire Fox Terrier Darcey is owned by Sue Nixon, who has bred Darcey through from 8 generations on her dam line.

Hounds Association of Scotland

Dog winner at the Hounds Association of Scotland show was Tarmachan Ice cool Glenariff, – pet name is Logan. Logan is a Basset Griffon Vendeen who also went on to take reserve best dog in breed at the show. Mini Wire-haired Dachshund bitch, Russteck Nicely Nicely for Ravensbeech, – pet name Nessy took the bitch qualifier spot.

Unfortunately, both are unable to attend the final, so the Hound group will be represented by fabulous runners up, dog Hyndsight Pilgrim and bitch CH Hyndsight in Your Dreams. Both are Deerhounds owned by Sue Finnett and Natalie Heathcote, and handled by Hector Heathcote

Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales

Buddies Pet Insurance - Yearling Stakes4 finalists secured their places at the Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales Show.

Judge Graham Hill selected Boxer, Casemates Gandalf, whose pet name is Bertie, as the winner of the Working dogs class. Bertie is owned by Eileen Kelly and has been a consistent winner during his young career. Joining Bertie at the final is Bernese Mountain Dog, Padicky Starr Studded Skye, whose pet name is Starr. Starr is owned and bred by Diane Spencer and handled by Diane’s daughter Paige.

Winner of Pastoral Dogs was Allmark The Sequel JW ShCM, who is an Australian Shepherd and is known by his family as Alvin. Alvin is handled by Buddies Breeder, Angie Allan. Joining Alvin at the Grand final is Border Collie ‘Tonkory Some Have It JW’ whose pet name is Summer. Summer is owned and bred by Judith Gregory and handled by her Granddaughter Freya.

National Gundog

Buddies Pet Insurance - Yearling StakesOur judge at the National Gundog qualifiers was Carole Coode. Carole’s first selection was handsome Hungarian Vizsla, Ch Magnus Fartuna Pitswarren J.W, pet name Magnus. ‘Magnus is such a clown in the ring and he is a real joy to show.’ Says owner Peter.

Carole then went on to select stunning Pointer, Meadogold Tartini with Soham, pet name Tartini. Tartini gained her JW at just under 12 months of age.

British Utility Breeds Association

Our judge at BUBA was highly experienced Liz Dunhill, of the world renown Vormund affix. Sharpei Tianshan Miracle Maestro took top honours in Dogs. Maestro is owned and bred by Joy Bayliss.

Joining Maestro at the grand final is Dalmatian CH Millbelle Fernie JW whose pet name is Fernie. This fabulous Dalmatian is owned by Jenny Wright.
