Buddies Breeder – Tarnya Stephens
We recently caught up with Buddies breeder, Tarnya Stephens. We asked Tarnya a few questions to find out more about her breed of choice, the Labrador.
How Long have you been breeding for?
‘I have been breeding for 6 years. I am a KC assured breeder with a 5 star licence with Herefordshire Council.’
Why this breed?
‘I chose this breed as I am involved in the working side.’
What is the best thing about the breed?
The best thing about this breed is definitely their trainability and their brilliant temperament.’
What is the worst thing about the breed?
‘The dog hairs!’
What is the best thing about being a breeder?
‘The best thing about being a breeder is being able to improve the breed through careful planning and health testing. It’s great eventually handing a puppy over to their new owner, knowing I have done my very best by each puppy.’
How many litters do you have per year?
‘On average, I breed 2 litters per year, with waiting lists usually full before mating.’
How long have you been with Buddies?
‘I have been with Buddies since April and have been delighted with the service and friendly staff.’
If you could have any other breed, what would it be?
‘If I could breed any other breed, it would have to be a working dog, so probably a retriever.’
Any achievements you would like to share?
I have had my puppies go far and wide, a few even collected by private plane. Some of my puppies have been trained as assistance dogs too. My biggest pride of all, is seeing my puppies become adults and do what they were bred to do, working in the field and competing in trials and working tests.’
Thank you to Tarnya for sharing her love and knowledge of the breed, alongside some simply adorable images. You can find out more about Tarnya, and Mochuto Labradors on their Facebook page here.
