Buddies Breeder – Lyndsey Durkin
We recently caught up with Buddies Breeder, Lindsey Durkin.
Lindsey, who is based in Clacton-on-sea in Essex, has been breeding Shih Tzu since 2006. We asked Lindsey a few questions to find out more about her love for this breed.
Why this breed?
‘I chose this breed ultimately for their kind nature. They are always happy and love you unconditionally. Shih Tzu are a fantastic breed to have with children and anyone with allergies as they have hair as opposed to fur. You can choose to have their coat cut or grow and brushed. Such an easy breed to keep as they do not demand much from any human. This breed really could fit into any household.’
What’s the best thing about this breed?
‘For me, the best thing about this breed is that you can leave them when you pop out on your shopping trips or to run errands with peace of mind, they are not a destructive breed.
What’s the worst thing about this breed?
‘I don’t think there is anything bad about this breed. If I had to select something, it would be that they can be prone to cosmetic umbilical hernias. These are easily repaired though.’
What’s the best thing about being a breeder?
‘The best part of being involved in breeding, is watching the little darlings grow up to go on to make someone’s family complete.’
What’s the worst thing about being a breeder?
‘The worst part of breeding is if you are unlucky enough to get a fading puppy, or pups that don’t survive due to things beyond your control. It’s heart breaking.’
If you could have any other breed, what would it be?
‘If I could have any breed, I would love to breed the English Bulldog. I have tried other breeds but have always gone back to the Shih Tzu.’
A big thank you to Lindsey for sharing her love for Shih Tzu and her fabulous photos.
