And the Winner Is…
The fabulous Thrumpton Hall in Nottinghamshire was the venue for the annual Buddies Yearling Stakes final, which is now in its second year. The event is the climax of a unique series held at single Group Championship shows throughout 2018. All seven groups are represented at the finals by a dog and bitch.
The day started with a lap of honour from last years winner Ch. Sundabish Mr Majeika, AKA Noah who is owned by Dan Bown. Noah has had a very successful year in the show ring following last years win and It was a real pleasure to have him at this years final.
Our 14 finalists then entered the ring to been seen by our judge for the day, Meg Purnell-Carpenter.
After much thought, Meg shortlisted her favourites before announcing the top four in reverse order.
The newly crowned winner Ch. Millbelle Fernie JW JWW18, owned by Jenny Wright, took the top spot, winning £500, together with a commission by leading animal portrait artist Jo van Kampen.
Our Yearling of the year, whose pet name is Fernie, also proved to be an audience favourite, as fabulous Fernie was crowned as the winner of the ‘Spectators Choice’ award.
Ch. Rhodenash Kotten Khiara Avec Anzhela JW owned by Anita Lunam, picked up the £250 runner up prize. Both winner and runner up also received a fabulous Buddies Yearling stake rosette.
The success of the day was not only down the quality of the finalists, but also the participation of dog world luminaries Meg Purnell-Carpenter and Di Johnson. Special thanks go to chief steward Nick Gourley, who ensured everything went smoothly, with a helping hand from steward Hayley Mccallum.
Qualifiers for next year will be held at the UK Toy Dog, National Terrier, Hound association of Scotland, Working and Pastoral of Wales, National Gundog and BUBA.
