In this Waggy Tale we meet Margaret and her Jack Russell Terrier, Oscar.
9-year-old Oscar’s journey first started when he was knocked over by a large dog when he was just 6 months old. The collision resulted in Oscar becoming lame on his back right leg, which required two femoral dissections.
‘It took a long time for him to recover from this but once he had four feet back on the ground there was no stopping him. Oscar loves playing ball, probably too much really, going to the beach and walks.’
‘In 2016 the ground was a bit slippery from a frost and he injured his front right leg, after rest he recovered but gradually started to limp on it.’, Says Margaret.
After a referral from the vets it was discovered that a piece of bone had grown and needed a arthrotomy to reduce his medial coronoid (commonly known as elbow dysplasia). All went well with the operation; however, Oscar developed a very bad stomach upset due to the medication. The vets began to treat Oscar for his upset stomach and he was then on the road to recovery.
Just as Margaret began to think Oscar was out of the woods, he then developed a limp on the hind right leg.
Following another referral, it was discovered that little Oscar was suffering from a cranial cruciate ligament injury. This meant more surgery for Oscar and shorter walks for 8-10 weeks.
Margaret wasn’t too worried about the vet bills, as she had a buddies Pet Insurance policy in place. ‘The claims process was easy, and Buddies dealt directly with the vets who sent on all claims for me’, Says Margaret.
‘Oscar is now well on the way to recovering, yes he may be coming up 10 years old, but having lost my husband suddenly two years ago he has been there for me, a dog makes you get up in the morning because he has to have a walk and you meet lots of lovely people while you are out walking.’, adds Margaret.
We wish Oscar a speedy recovery and hope he gets on well with his continuing physio sessions.
