Meet Woody, the star of this week’s throwback Thursday.
Friend of Buddies, Woody, is a 16-month-old Sprocker Spaniel.
Woody’s dad Andrew collected Woody from a local breeder when he was just 8 weeks old.
‘As a spaniel, Woody is normally full of energy and bouncing around. However, when he was introduced to a young family relative who is autistic and has a phobia of dogs he was completely different. He was aware that there was something different about this new person and he introduced himself on the young boy’s terms rather than the other way around (Woody normally goes for the jumping up and bear hug approach).’, Says Andrew.
‘Woody would approach very slowly and when he got to about 6ft away he would just lie down watching and waiting for the boy to come over to him. It took lots of visits before the child would even stroke him and every time he came, Woody always behaved the same way. Over many months he has gained confidence and appears to have overcome his phobia of dogs and Woody now behaves the same around him as he does everyone else.’ Adds Andrew.
Little mischievous Woody loves mud and water and has even got himself into a spot of bother after jumping through the ice and ending up in a frozen lake. Dad Andrew was quick to rescue Woody; however his wellies weren’t so easy to save and are still yet to dry out!
