We’ve all heard the saying ‘It’s me or the dog’, but would that be such a hard decision for many of us?
Personally, I’d be inclined to choose Elvis over my partner Matthew (sorry Matt). Elvis is a much quieter snorer and eats far less than my other half. Elvis also never leaves wet towels on the bathroom floor.
A recent poll of 3,500 dog parents found that four out of five people think their dogs reaction to a potential partner is a super important factor. In addition to this, 86% of those asked, said they wouldn’t pursue things with a potential partner if they didn’t ‘click’ with the dog.
Luckily, Elvis, who is normally super wary of men, warmed to Matt instantly and they have a huge bromance going on.
I asked the Buddies team what they would do if faced with the ultimatum from their partner, ‘It’s me or the dog?’, and the responses were brilliant.
Colette – ‘I’ll miss you’.
Gemma – ‘I couldn’t pick. Mollie is my fur baby! …but a dog would never make you choose, they’re happy to share you, so I’d maybe sway more towards the dog.’
Andy – ‘Wife every time. Lol.’
Lorraine – Oooh no not an easy decision! haha my first reaction was the hubby, but my boys (office dogs Barney and Alfie) don’t snore as loudly.’
I think we could all learn a little from our fur-babies to help us enjoy a happy relationship. Dogs are always happy to see you, they are quick to forgive, they don’t care if you wake up with smelly breath and they love unconditionally.
Lets all try and be a little more dog.
