In this Buddies Book Club blog we take a look at ‘Fabulous Finn’ by Dave Wardell with Lynne Barrett-Lee.
Many of you may have heard of Dave and brave police dog Finn who saved his handlers life when he selflessly risked his own.
‘Fabulous Finn’ tells the story of Dave and Finn’s career and also details the events that changed not only Dave’s, but Finn’s life too.
Dave Wardell has been serving as a police officer for fifteen years, and in 2009 fulfilled his lifelong ambition to become a dog handler. Dave and Finn worked together as partners in crime for over 7 years, during which time they tracked and found over 300 suspects breaking several local and national records.
Back in October of 2016, PC Dave Wardell and his PD Finn were in pursuit of a robbery suspect, something they had done many times before. This particular apprehension ended differently. The suspect used a ten-inch bladed knife to stab Finn through his chest. The suspect then focused his blade on Dave, however Finn protected his handler and was stabbed in the top of his head.
Finn had no doubt saved Dave’s life, but the race was now on to save Finn.
A beautifully written book guaranteed to inspire and tug on your heart strings.
Not only does this book highlight the fabulous job done by police dogs and their handlers, it shows the unbreakable bond between a man and his dog.
