Controversial documentary wins top marks from RSPCA

Latest from the Buddies pet insurance news team…in a move set to infuriate many dog breeders, the RSPCA has decided to award Jemima Harrison with the Richard Martin Award for her highly controversial television documentary, Pedigree Dogs Exposed. The citation that goes along with the charity’s highest accolade mentions the filmmaker’s commitment to the welfare of animals. Speaking about the award, RSPCA chief executive Mark Watts was keen to emphasise the role the documentary has played in starting an important debate about pedigree dog welfare. Mr Watts also went on to praise Harrison’s commitment to finishing the project despite a great deal of hostility from entrenched opposition. Ms Harrison was keen to mention that the production company behind the project was tiny.
