The Collie is a herding dog that enjoys lots of space in which to run and play. While versatile and content to stay indoors for part of the day, the coat needs exposure to the elements to maintain its optimum condition. Grooming also plays a strong part in developing the bond between owner and dog. Pin brushes, metal combs and slicker brushes are essential tools in any owner’s cupboard. Start the process while still a puppy.
In addition to walks, Collies enjoy games, excelling at trials and working activity. They are naturally protective of their family, always on the look out for potential dangers and very tolerant of younger members of the pack.
Only choose a Collie if you have plenty of time to spend with this dog. Left alone for long periods and they will become a nuisance. Work and play with them and the Collie will reward you with love and loyalty.
