Collies prefer to be with their people, whether indoors or out. Collies are a very versatile breed and can easily become accustom to indoor living, they have a double coat which insulates in both warm and cold months, so they need ample outdoor time to condition the coat properly. They love winter time, but thoroughly enjoy coming inside to curl up on the bed too. Collies are a wonderful watch dog and very protective of their family and property. Collies are VERY easy to train, they are the very best family pet and are so very tolerant of toddlers, Collies are excellent babysitters too! They make wonderful therapy dogs, herd dogs, they excel in agility, flyball, tracking, carting and obedience as well. READ, READ, READ, ask questions and most importantly educate yourself before purchasing any pet and always have your pet spayed or neutered, leave breeding to the professionals who have spent years studying pedigrees and genetics. Collies are most healthiest breed out there hands down and that's a fact!

Collies are just a wonderful breed. They are great with Children and other animals. They are very loving and loyal and will go to the ends of the earth for their human companions. If you are considering a Collie for your family please research the breed and reputable breeders in your area and also check out the rescues. There are many wonderful Collies looking for loving forever homes and they are in desperate need of loving families to call their own.

We just wanted to let visitors to the Buddies website know that, whilst each year a number of rough collies will find themselves homeless through no fault of their own, Rough Collie Rescue (Midlands) is there to care for those whose journeys bring them to our Collie Hospice here in the heart of the Midlands. Thanks to referrals from vets, dog wardens and rescue organisations, we have voluntarily taken in a considerable number of abandoned, neglected and abused rough collies since 1990. Promising to protect these orphans to the very best of our ability, we are pleased to say all have gone on to live with experienced collie people where they have been very happy, very settled and very loved. Whilst we may shed a tear or two at having to part with our charges, we take comfort in knowing that their new owners will become part of our extended network of friends and supporters so essential to the continued success of our organisation. For those of us who have been touched by the companionship of this majestic collie, whose love is truly unconditional, the following quote will be particularly poignant - “Dogs come into our lives, leave paw-prints on our hearts, and we are forever changed.” Of course we must acknowledge the fact that genuine reasons for any dog to be rehomed can arise. All we ask is for potential puppy purchasers to be honest with themselves and to realise the commitment they are making for possibly the next 12 to 14 years. As far as rough collies are concerned, their coat is high maintenance and they crave human companionship – if you cannot make these commitments then, sadly, the Rough Collie is probably not for you. Rough Collie Rescue (Midlands) is an INDEPENDENT organisation committed to finding kind and understanding homes for stray and needy rough (and occasional smooth) collies. Dedicated to promoting responsible dog ownership, we ensure our collies are vet-checked, fully vaccinated, groomed, treated for parasites, micro-chipped and neutered before going to their new pre-checked, adoptive homes. Follow-up visits are made, backed up with a pledge of help and support for as long as it is needed. Please visit our website - www.roughcollierescue.org.uk. Thank you.
